Biography

Phil is a freelance horn player in the Bay Area. He has performed with local groups such as the Monterey Symphony, Modesto Symphony, Bay Philharmonic, and New Century Chamber Orchestra.

Phil was previously Acting Principal Horn of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Second Horn with the New Haven Symphony, and Fourth Horn with the York Symphony and Symphony in C.

He has also worked with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, The Knights, Alarm Will Sound, Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, Albany Symphony, New World Symphony, National Philharmonic, and Delaware Symphony, among others.

Phil attended summer festivals including the Pacific Music Festival (Japan), National Orchestral Institute, Manchester Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, and Lake George Music Festival.

He holds a Bachelor of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. He also trained at the Yale School of Music. His principal teachers include Denise Tryon, William Purvis, Philip Munds, Peter Landgren, and Edwin Thayer.
